Can You Build a Business Selling Commercial Lighting?
- Can You Build a Business Selling Commercial Lighting?
Only you can decide whether you can make a living being a representative for a lighting company. But there are several reasons why you should consider this as a viable business.
Lighting is a consistent need for all industries and commercial businesses. This is important in a recessionary time. You don’t want to try to sell something that is a luxury or that a business will consider an extravaganza. Due to the current economy, companies are cutting their expenses down to the bare minimum.
By selling a necessity you’re meeting a need within an already established market. You won’t have to convince a business of their need for lighting; only of their need for replacement lighting.
You can sell commercial lighting to:
- Auto dealerships
- Retail outlets
- Manufacturing plants
- And many other industries
But before you get started there are several things you need to consider.
The biggest decision is deciding what company to represent. Whose product do you want to sell? If you make the wrong choice at this point your hoping of building a business will be drastically reduced.
When selling industrial lighting you’re talking about a major investment for a company. Why should they switch from the lighting they’re currently using? How do you convince them that your lighting is better?
Simple. The lighting you sell needs to really be better than what they are currently using. When you sell energy efficient lighting you’re not only selling a superior product that provides better quality lighting; but you can prove that it will actually save the company money in the long run.
If you can show your potential clients that the lighting you sell has virtually no maintenance, more configuration options, easy installation, no re-strike time, longer lasting lamps, AND lower energy costs; why wouldn’t they want to buy your product?
When you’re choosing a company to affiliate with; you should also consider the support the lighting company offers their representatives. If you connect with a business that offers their affiliates a proven marketing plan you’ll be well ahead of the game. You don’t want a plan they “claim” will work. You want a marketing plan that they have actually developed and used. It needs to work in real life – not just work in theory or on paper.
Building a future for yourself and your family is serious business. You don’t want to rely on representing a company that could be gone in a few months or years. Find a company that has a long track record in the energy efficient industry and are committed to energy conservation and high quality products.
Working as an employee will limit your opportunities for the future because you can only rise as high as others allow you to rise. But when you’re working in sales you have no limits. If you put in extra work you receive the benefits. You can’t be laid off because of a corporate takeover or because you’re nearing retirement age.
Create the future you want by selling businesses a product that they need and want.
