What you should know about fluorescent lighting solutions
It seems that in the early twenty first Century, one of the main goals of any corporation is to ensure they are energy efficient. Not only does consuming large amounts of electricity cost businesses millions of dollars per year, but at the same time the environment is also affected, helping with depleting its natural resources at a very fast pace.
The good news is that energy efficient lighting solutions are available in quite a great selection and some of the solutions that many companies seem to prefer, involve the fluorescent light bulbs. Before any company that wants to start using them will take the plunge to purchase some, it’s best to first of understand all how they work and how they fare compared to regular light bulbs.
How do normal light bulbs work?
Regular light bulbs are made from a candle shaped or rounded glass envelope and a tungsten filament which is contained on the inside. So basically when they are turned on, electricity will pass through eh filament and there it will encounter resistance.
Because of it the tungsten filament will heat up so much that it will be become glowing white hot and this is what eventually is responsible for producing the light. A lot of the electrical energy used for lighting up this type of light bulb is practically wasted for generating the heat and that is why regular light bulbs are considered so inefficient.
How do fluorescent light fittings work?
When it comes to the fluorescent lighting solutions, their functionality is governed by a totally different set of principles. Even though they feature no filaments, they use a phosphor coated fluorescent tube in order to produce light. Because an electrode can be found at the end of each tube, if they are turned on, a steady stream of electrons will pass from one end to the other. When this happens, a set of chemical reactions will be triggered in the tube encapsulated gas and eventually the bulb will start emitting light or fluoresce.
Because minimal amounts of heat are required in order to produce light, this is a way more efficient method of producing light and that is why it’s so well viewed by many commercial companies.
Fluorescent lighting benefits
Compared to a regular incandescent light bulb, fluorescent lighting solutions require way less energy to run and they can be up to 6 times more efficient than the former. That is why plenty of companies are using them, especially in their hangars, warehouses and even on stadiums. They can save a lot of money every month and they also help with reducing the carbon footprint a lot.
Even though sometimes companies will maybe have to pay a bit more to get these fluorescent lighting solutions, in the long run they will help them save millions of dollars per year. Because they also don’t contain fragile filaments, replacing them will not be required as often as with regular light bulbs. All in all, these lighting solutions are very efficient not only from an energy point of view, but also because of their environmental friendliness.
