How to choose High Bay Lights properly
Any company out there that needs to ensure the workers in the warehouses get to have enough light in order to ensure operations are always run in optimal lighting conditions will certainly need to take a good look at High Bay Lights. These lighting solutions are usually used in order to provide general purpose lighting in warehouses, on stadiums and in buildings with high ceilings.
Most of the times they are installed in storage buildings, garages, athletic facilities and of course, in warehouses. However, there are different types of such lights and each of them will have a massive impact on the function and appearance of an area. Before buying some, it’s important that companies consider the lighting needs of their warehouse, but also maintenance and operation budget.
1. The first step in choosing High Bay Lights is to regard the design of each fixture. Most of the times they can be purchased in linear or pendant forms, and while the linear fixtures are just a few inches in thickness, the pendants will require a higher ceiling height and take up more space. That is why when companies are interested in such lights, they will first of all have to verify if the activities and equipment will interfere with them and if the ceiling height is optimal to accommodate each fixture type.
2. Installation options will have to be carefully reviewed and this is because comes of the High Bay Lights can be really heavy and that is why they will require a great support from above. To determine which fixture type will work best, it’s important that companies compare their existing ceiling configuration with the requirements of each light.
3. There are plenty of lighting technologies available out there and each of them has their own advantages. For instance, the regular High Bay Lights use HID technology, while the modern ones use fluorescent bulbs. The latter seem to be a great choice, because they cost half as much as the HID fixtures in what regards annual operating costs. On top of that, they have a minimal impact on the environment and are also less energy hungry.
4. While for some companies warm up time is important, for others it’s not and that is why this should be considered by commercial clients when they want to get proper lighting solutions. For example, fluorescent lights switch on immediately, while the HID lights require around ten minutes to warm up properly and provide light.
5. At this point lighting power should be carefully compared. As an example, fluorescent lights are great for heights of up to fifteen feet and if used in very tall buildings, they might not perform as well. However, HID lights can provide light over greater distances and they work great for rooms with tall ceilings.
6. Last but not least, companies should go with the design which works best for their facility. Sometimes, the lights will be protected by a cage or wiring, but in some cases no protection will be considered. Going for the unprotected versions, they will be more affordable and also offer a higher lighting degree. They should only be considered though if there’s a 100% certainty workers won’t come close to them in any way.
